What do you do when someone is throwing away old floorboards?

In the case of my grandparents you look disapprovingly at your new neighbours wondering why on earth they’d decide to throw out such beautiful floorboards to make their new open plan style house.
On the other hand in my case I think “hang on, I could be a little cheeky here and nab myself some rather nice lengths of solid timber”. So that’s exactly what I did. I popped over to see the builder and asked him if I could have some of the old floorboards that were being thrown away?

After loading the car up with a dozen or so I took them home to store in my garage until just the right time came along to use them.
So further down the line that right time came along. We’d recently decorated out bathroom and it was in need of a little furnishing.
It was a simple commission from my parents, make two shelves, a towel rail and toilet roll holder.
Along with some galvanised electrical conduit I turned some of the old floorboards into the shelves needed. A little weekend project and the perfect use of the boards.
So what do you do when you see someone throwing out old floorboards? You go and ask if you can have them!
